A lot of people want to work at home, be it on a full time or part time basis. Working from home allows individuals the opportunity to make money in a comfortable and relaxed environment, working with a flexible schedule based upon their own preferences. Making money online is not difficult and many people can start to earn money at home quickly.With time a simple idea of exploring ways of making some bucks on the side by enjoying your hobby could become very rewarding financially.Many home business opportunities start with, simply, a hobby. Individuals all around the world have different hobbies, but all can be utilized in order to help these people make money online. The trick is to look at your preferred hobby and to understand how it might be utilized in order to help you make money online.
Some people like to collect things. It could be any number of things. Baseball cards or other sport cards, comic books, movies, video cassettes, music discs, antiques, silverware, books and cars represent just a small fraction of the many items which are collected by people spanning all corners of the world. Collectors items are always in demand among their particular social and occupational circles. Selling collectors items online can be very profitable for the individuals who are willing to give them up. This is especially true if a person is able to offer potential buyers rare items that they have been looking for intently. Due to the scarcity of such rare items, there is a higher price tag capable of being attached to the items being sold. However, it is not just collectors item which may be sold online by people striving to find a way to make their hobby profitable. For individuals who simply preferring flipping or selling items, any items can be sold online. There are a number of different formats in which items may be sold online. Not only are there online classified ads, there are also online auctions and personal websites which may allow individuals the opportunity to sell items to people located anywhere around the globe. This can be a great deal of fun and excitement for individual who enjoy selling items, goods and services.
Blogs also allow individuals the opportunity to turn their passion into a money making opportunity in an easy and convenient manner. All over the Internet, individuals are able to post and read blogs or online journals. This is a great way for knowledgeable individuals to offer their information to others. If a person enjoys bowling and they know tips on how to play, rules and other such areas of the sport, they could write a blog in order to pass their information on to others. Not only can personal sites ask for donations to help run the site (including paying the individuals who design and operate the site) but it is also possible for individuals to place ads on their site related to the blogs. Every website visitor who clicks on the ads adds up and the ad placement company pays the blogger or website owner in cooperation with the number of ads that were clicked upon. In keeping with the above example, ads may be related to bowling alleys, bowling bowls and other gear related to the sport of bowling.

If a competition were to take place between Wordpress and Blogger, which one would emerge as the winner? Here we will examine the pros and cons of both sites. Then you can decide if Wordpress or Blogger is the best for your blogging needs.
Both Blogger and Wordpress are free to sign up but if you want a self-hosted Wordpress site you will have to purchase a domain and hosting package. If you wish to have only one blog then this is not a huge deal but if you desire to have numerous blogs all at once then the proceeds can really add up. Blogger by contrast, is completely free.
If control is vital to you then Wordpress is better for you as it allow rooms for more creative control over your blog. Blogger is owned by Google and therefore the blog you create must conform to their rules and regulations. If they decide to change the set up or layout of their blogs then you have no power over that. In other words, Google makes all the rules that you blog must adhere to, no questions asked.
Wordpress is user friendly for anyone and everyone. It is a content management system (CMS) that provides an extremely large amount of styles, themes, colors as well as layouts. Customization could not be any easier than it is with the blog host Wordpress. Wordpress permits its users to set up as many different types of themes as they desire, and plug ins abound at Wordpress.
On the other hand, Blogger is easy to use but difficult to customize. You more or less have to make use of whatever is in front or you as opposed to modifying it to work for you. If you have good computer skills you will be able to make some little changes in style and color at Blogger but the emphasis here is on the word small.
Going back to the area of plug ins, Wordpress is far ahead of Blogger when it comes to plug ins. In fact the site provides new plug ins and themes for users almost on a daily or weekly basis. Blogger does provide some add-ons for its users and templates but there is less to choose from.
When it comes to search engine optimization, Blogger comes out ahead of Wordpress because it is owned by Google and Google is the biggest search engine around. Blogger is a subdomain from the Google domain which helps facilitate easy search engine optimization. The default templates for Blogger are SEO friendly.
Wordpress is lacking in this area and it can be tough for Google to become familiar with a domain that originates from Wordpress. Quick indexing techniques can be put to use for your Wordpress account but search engine optimization is still a challenge for a blog hosted by this service.
As far as the internet marketplace is concerned, Wordpress is more popular and more respected. On the other hand, blogs created at Blogger are often seen as full of spam and it is common for blog directories to reject them.

People who operate their own internet businesses like land sharks and criticize others for how they operate theirs. Well, this article is going to dish out a large dose of reality to those of you who believe that your business ethics are beyond criticism. There are quite a few numbers of things that you are doing, of course, you and even me, that some might regard as unethical.
Let us tackle a topic that a numerous people seem to believe there is a black and white line separate the good from the bad. Well, it is neither so black nor white. The topic am talking about is getting your web site to rank high in the SERPs. We hear about white hat and black hat often. And while some people may believe they know what black hat is, they really do not have any clue.
For instance, if you study Googles TOS, you will discover that anything that is used to unnaturally raise a website up the ranks is considered against their TOS. Well, what about you people, like me who put up articles and submit them to directories like this one? Certainly, we get away with it because on the surface it shows that all we are doing is offering valuable information to those who need it, but let us be sincere. We would be doing this if there is nothing in for us. If this content do not aid our rankings why would we write it?
The point I am trying to make here is quite simple. Our reasons, whether satisfactory or not simply because of appearance, are not as clean as the driven snow as we would like to believe. We are basically in this to earn money. That comprises me, you and everyone who operates a home business. The only difference between us and the so called black hatters is the length we will go to accomplish our goals.
So before you start throwing stones at other people, you might want to take a good long look at your own business practices. Do you make use of force opt in? Do you use forced continuity? Do you set up a large network of sites to build a strong backlinking network? Do you submit articles to a lot of directories? I could go on but I believe you get the point. All of these things COULD be seen as an attempt to manipulate the search engines.
Nope, we are not as clean as we would like to believe we are.

Blogging is one of the trendiest online publishing platforms around these days and can bring massive amounts of traffic due to the way blogs are structured for sharing content, along with being search engine friendly. A blog is just part of the equation when looking to build a profitable business on the web, but a very important aspect which will assist you drive traffic to your offers.
Here are 6 basic rules for running a successful blog
RULE #1: Write with authority
The best blogs have content that is clearly well researched and educative. If you know nothing about the topic, do not despair it just needs a little investigation and your ability to out your own spin on things. If you are working in a niche for pure profits and you are fighting to write frequent blog content, you may have to hire somebody to do the writing or look for creative alternatives, such as bringing in guest bloggers etc.
RULE #2: Stay relevant
Always remain on topic and keep every single post aimed at your audience interests. People love specialist info on the web, and a jack of all trades blog will be difficult to believe and build trust with. In addition, people visiting your blog only want one thing, to learn and be entertained within and around that particular subject of interest. If you are trying to post regular content that is kept on topic, you may need to do more investigation or again, find creative ways to come up with several contents for a long period of time.
RULE #3: Add content frequently
Blogs that do not update for weeks or even days on end will always end up being drowned in the competition. Blogs are designed as a finger on the pulse, regular diary on a particular topic. If you dont post regularly, your readers will get hungry for more content and will end up looking elsewhere and boy are there plenty of choices out there for them to run off to.
RULE #4: Keep it clean and brief
Let us face the reality, we are all busy people. Sure, we might want to spend an hour after work on our computers, visiting all of our favourite websites before dinner. But that leaves us, the publishers, with a little slice of the pie to get our messages across and keep that relationship going with our readers. So use your little slice of the pie to hit the mark, straight to the point, entertain and educate. If you get this right, you will discover that you are gradually rewarded with more of the readers daily/days/months.
RULE #5: Keyword focus
A lot of people get caught up on keywords, but it doesnt have to be complex as you might think. Essentially, you simply need to focus on keywords that are relevant to your blog post title. The title should be compelling as that is the clickable link that the search engines present to readers but try to target keywords that an individual looking for solutions, or to purchase, or who are in a desperate situation.
It is not always possible, depending on your individual blog posts, but as a rule of thumb, always target these type of keywords. When you do, ensure they are included in the title of the blog, in the opening paragraph and at the end of the blog post, and also in the tags section of each post.
RULE #6: Make your blog STICK
It is a challenge to get people to your blog in the initial place, so it would be stupid to let them slip away for ever once they do get there. There are numerous ways to keep visitors coming back and you are only limited by your own creativity. Maybe, a regular competition, interactive events that requires visitors to come back and check their scores/status/progress and so on? Ensure you have a clearly visible RSS feed that readers can subscribe to in order to receive your content remotely. Lastly, do not forget to promote your email newsletter so you can keep in touch via email as well.
As you can see, there are so many things to think about when setting up a profitable home business blog. Its no wonder a lot of folks fail to get off the ground with blogs. Do not forget, we have not even covered making actual money from your blog yet!

John Benjamin

Yes, the secret to Internet marketing success has finally been let out of the bag. I have tried to keep it concealed for as long as I could, but it was a no win struggle. If you have missed it, do not be troubled. I am going to reveal that secret right here, today! But you have to make me a solemn vow. You have to promise that you will not reveal this to anybody. The reasons will be obvious when you are done reading this article. Alright, so what is this so called secret to Internet marketing success?
Its simply HARD WORK.
Oh, did I just say the filthy four letter words WORK? Of course, am afraid I did. I can see the pebbles being thrown at me as I am writing this. Maybe I should get under my desk and hide until the pebbles are over.
Alright, let us go to the point. Perhaps you are wondering why I am writing this hilarious article. Well, it is in response to yet ANOTHER correspondence I received from somebody who wanted to know if I could give them some kind of automated system for making huge money on the web so that they could just hang out on the beech all day while the cash flows in. I usually get a mail like these a week it seems.
What is it with people these days? Are they so against working for themselves? I mean, if I could just lie out on the beech and simply nothing all day, I would be bored to death after a while. I love getting up in the morning and writing a couple of articles. It keeps my brain fresh and alive. They say the more you make use of your brain the less chances it is to get Alzheimers disease.
But it is not really JUST hard work that brings about success. Its CLEVER work. Listen, you can toil real hard, but if you work hard at something the wrong way, you are not going to get any RESULT. So you have to learn to work smart and not hard. That is the secret. How can you actualize this? Well, if you are just beginning and dont know a blessed thing, the smartest thing you can do is get yourself a teacher or mentor - somebody who can assist you put together a business plan. In the long run you will save yourself a lot of pains.
If you can not afford to hire a mentor and have to go the ebook route, get advice from people you trust. Find and read reviews of the products. Look out for reviews that are not accompanied by an affiliate link. You want impartial reviews, if you can find one.
Lastly, once you have your business plan in place, work on it consistently. I dont care how lousy you feel when you get up every morning. Discipline yourself to do a certain amount of job on a daily basis. You dont have to do it all in one day, afterall Rome was not built in a day and your business doesnt have to be either. Just do something on a daily basis and eventually you will get there. Sorry to say, the secret still remain HARDWORK as well as smartness.
To YOUR Success,
John Benjamin
Tired of busting your behind for peanuts online? Visit my site at Online Business Ideas and find out how I earn a monthly income that exceeds 5 figures and how I can help YOU do the same.
Making money online begins and ends with the market you decide to enter. These days, all you hear about is finding a NICHE or you need to find a PROFITABLE niche. Well, I happen to agree as do all other successful online marketers.
But how exactly do you find a niche to begin with?
First of all, lets find out what a niche is. A niche is like to a sub section of a broad market. For instance, a broad market might be dating, but the niche you might find would be Over 40s dating in North America.
You can now see the difference? Evidently, the niche is targeted to a certain category of people within a wider market (which is Dating in this example). So, your job is to find a specific set of people who are seeking for information, products and services or that generally have a burning interest in that topic. Here is your checklist before you go out and start looking for a profitable niche to begin with:
1. Ensure there ready are buyers
There is no point targeting prospect who are not interested in purchasing anything related to that niche.
2. Esure they are active online.
There needs to be forums, groups and other communities that congregate on the internet so that you can target these prospects and get to know them properly.
The next thing to do is actually start your investigation. You can visit Dmoz.com and looking around the categories listed there. Scroll down to look for small topics that you would never think about. Then once you have found a subject of interest, go to eBay and Amazon and see if there are books/products/services that are selling which are related to this subject.
Then take some keywords that you think are related to the subject and perform a search for related forums and groups. You can do that with a search like this:
Your keyword + groups Your keyword + forums
Just substitute (your keyword) with the actual keyword you have in mind, and then hit search in your preferred search engine.
Once you have discovered that there are products that are selling and people gathering actively online in forums and groups, you know that you are onto a winner. The next steps are to find out what information people search for and then begin creating some simple articles on your own new domain which relates to this subject. Then you can center on monetizing the website and of course, the most significant part is getting some good traffic to your website, which is the make or break part of the whole online marketing process.
It is also far too much to go into detail in this single article, so ensure you download Stone Evans ebook titled - Dotcomology - the Science of Making Money Online at my Internet Business Ideas, where you will find out how to drive a lot of traffic to your site, plus more Online Business Ideas on how to find even more wildly profitable niches and ways to shortcut your way to online success.
If you have not heard of Twitter at this point most internet users would say that you have been living under a rock. Twitter has taken the internet by storm and is becoming a serious social and business networking tool. If you have a website there is a simple 3 step plan that you can follow to turn your business into a Twitter profit house.
The first part of the 3 step plan is pretty obvious and that is to sign up for Twitter and learn how to use the interface. The program itself is very simple and it is basically a scaled down version of Face Book. The system allows you to post short messages that are then broadcast to all your followers on Twitter. Based on the information you send out they can take the appropriate actions that you have called upon them for.
The second part of the 3 step plan to turning your web business into a Twitter profit house is to drastically increase the number of followers that you have on Twitter. Now this is the really tricky part and there are entire internet courses dedicated to this interesting topic. The first and most obvious thing that you can do is post a link to your twitter follow me page on your website. If your goal is to increase followers you may want to make this a hard to miss stand out feature on your website.
Now that is not enough you also need to give people a reason for following you on Twitter. If you do not know almost the entire world is on Twitter and your readers or visitors need a reason to add you over someone else. Now you can go about this several different ways. First you could offer people something like a free eBook, gift certificate, or some kind of other tangible prize. The other way is that you can simply convince them based on the value of your work.
For instance you can say things like if you enjoyed this latest article and want to keep up to date on follow up stories subscribe to my Twitter feed. You can use each method separately or a combination of both it really does not matter as long as you are getting people to sign up.
The final part of the 3 step plan to turning your business into a Twitter profit house is to monetize your tweets. You need to approach this step carefully as you do not want to get a reputation for spamming your twitter feed. But from time to time you can send your followers links to products that you have enjoyed and earn a nice affiliate commission from doing so. You can also link to pages where you have placed lots of AdSense to increase revenue.
Remember there are many ways to become a Twitter profit house but if you follow this 3 step plan you have a much higher chance of succeeding. The most important thing is just too always offer something of value to your followers and they will appreciate it in the long run.
The reason a lot of people fail online so quickly is because they do not get traffic, at least not enough to stay in business.
The issue is, people end up wasting huge amount of money on advertising without making much (if any) profit back, or they simply spend too much time trying to get free traffic and wear themselves out.
Sure, once you are successful you can pay advertising agencies to get you the traffic, but how do we get out of the never ending cycle of trying to get traffic without wasting time and resources?
Well, I am going to begin with the fundamental tasks that you should center on first, then you can proceed from there.
1. Directory submissions
This can be attained by utilizing automated submission software or can be done manually. It is a little bit dull but will result in numerous back links to your website for better visibility in the search engines. This pays off as you add more quality content and back links to your site.
2. Social bookmarking
This concerns submitting links to the major Web 2.0 social bookmarking sites such as Digg, Propeller and Reddit (just to name a few). The great thing is you can make use of software such as socialmarker.com to make the process faster. You can also buy cheap software to automate the whole process.
The good side of social bookmarking your content is so that you gain back links from these authority sites which is vital for being found in the search engines but also, if you content is useful and interesting, you increase the likelihood of your submission being passed around other readers really fast, which can of course result in many traffic to your website.
3. Back links
Back links are the backbone of getting your website pages listed high across all search engines. The more other sites link to your site naturally i.e. without being paid or listing your site in some sort of link farm where the site linking to you is worthless, then the better your rankings will be across the search engines. Not to talk of the direct traffic that will come from the actual links from other sites too.
4. Collaboration
Most folks want to be the (one person wonder) or the sole entrepreneur in their business, which is alright. However, do not underrate the sheer power of teaming up with other well-known (established) websites directly and offering your content, help or other services in exchange for some publicity to your own website. The adage (I will scratch your back if you scratch mine) effect comes into play here and believe me; it works like magic providing you sincerely approach people to help them first.
There are certainly many other ways to start driving traffic to your website such as writing articles like this one, or getting involved with several of the Web 2.0 properties out there online today. The more social you become with your business/website at other peoples parties, the more visitors will flock to your party when you come to tell them about it, just like the everyday life isnt it?
I have only scratched the surface of how to drive huge amount of traffic to your website. If you would like to know more about using the new wave of traffic inducing methods to really get your business off the ground, then download a FREE ebook titled DOTCOMOLOGY at Internet Business Ideas.
Well, just when everyone thought it was safe to go back online, it seems that the President of the United States has concluded that something that ISPs have been doing for years, effectively, is something that HE now has to do himself and this is NOT right. I am going to elaborate in brief what is happening down the information super highway - Internet.
In a nutshell, the President of the United States is proposing a bill that will enable him to shut down the Internet should it be under any attack. That means that YOUR business will be close down as well. This is YOUR source of livelihood and YOUR welfare is at risk here. Why this bill is not only uncalled for but expensive as all hell.
The ISPs themselves are MORE than equipped to handle any attacks on the World Wide Web. They have been doing it successfully since the beginning of the internet. They are trained for this. To leave this in the hands of the government is not only ridiculous but a waste of time and money. The troubles it will cause are numerous to say the least. We dont need anymore policing than we already have.
Okay, so why am I writing this article? Very simple, if you reside in the United States, get in touch with your senators and congressmen. Make it extremely obvious to them that if they pass this bill that it will be the last one they pass in office as you wont be voting for their reelection. Otherwise, we are going to be stuck with a bill that is going to make every Internet entrepreneurs life a living nightmare.
This has nothing to do with party affiliation. This has to do with YOUR right to privacy. As long as you are conducting YOUR business in an ethical manner, obeying all laws, you should not have to be subjected to having it shut down on you without a moments notice. Imagine being in the middle of a big launch and our government decides that something is going on that warrants taking control of things. This can effectively cost billions of dollars in revenue world wide.
Please do not let this come to pass. Contact your representatives. In my signature is a link where you can find out who is representing you. Do not let them take YOUR Internet away from you.
To YOUR Success John Benjamin
To find out who your representatives are, go to this site: http://www.votesmart.org and enter your zip code. Then contact each senator and congressman for your state. Do this before something happens that you wont be able to undo.
You can't charge premium prices for a commodity product. If you've been tricked into believing this is real, you'll live by cheapest price and die by cheapest price for the rest of your life. People who believe this have slim profit margins and low self-esteem. But they don't have to.
For example Starbucks, AOL, and Microsoft are ALL in commodity markets but were able to re-define the rules such that they are relatively immune from price competition.
And I can guarantee you that there are THOUSANDS of small businesses as well, who use the same shrewd strategy to sidestep the whole issue of 'commoditization.'
Being a 'commodity' is the rock bottom. The most terrible situation you can be in is to sell something that's readily available from dozens of other people.
But you can alter that. I have a very specific terminology and approach for re-inventing your business and making it undoubtedly stand out from your competitors, even if you ARE in a commodity market.
It's the same thinking process that AOL, Microsoft, McDonalds and Starbucks uses, apparently unconquerable companies that dominate fiercely competitive commodity markets.
Let's take AOL as a brief case in point. In the beginning of the Internet you could become an Internet Service Provider with a few thousand dollars of cash and some phone lines. Some ISP's even gave away their services without charge. But AOL maintained a price of $23/month - just for dial-up.
Now the landscape has changed very much for ISP's and AOL has had a difficult time competing. However, the reasons for their initial triumph are still worth studying.
How did they achieve it? It is simply because AOL was fundamentally different from all other ISP's. They have FORCED themselves to come up with exceptional ways of making themselves non-interchangeable with others. They have AOL instant messenger, different kinds of online communities, and proprietary software. And once you're on AOL, it's difficult to get off.
You can pick up ideas right out of AOL and Microsoft and systematically apply them to your business, so that apples-to-apples comparisons to your competitors are hard or impossible.
If you are in a commodity business - then you MUST do this. *This is not an option.* When you do, it makes everything you do vastly easier and more effective.
Best of Success,
John Benjamin
Do You Have a Niche for Internet Marketing Business? If yes, then here is your chance to profit from the quick-cash-secret of a street smart internet millionaire at Earn Money Online.
'If you want to educate clients about new ideas, you have to buy 'em all doughnuts, lunch or dinner, and do a big dog & pony show.'
Is your product or service something that's really cool, really valuable, and helpful to people -- but the issue is, nobody knows how much they need it?
There was a new technology that I promoted at two different jobs. Essentially it was another one of those 'great ideas' that could solve lots of problems for individuals, but nobody realise they needed it.
So it was very difficult to sell!
I would visit companies, purchase lunch for all their people, and give enthusiastic, informative presentations about this really cool latest technology that could make their lives considerably easier.
Have you ever done that before?
They'd assemble, eat my pizza, pay attention apathetically to the presentation, and file out. They'd go back to their area of work, I'd go back to my office, and they wouldn't spend a single dime on anything. The whole situation is really dissapointing.
Then I heard about a man called Jeff Paul in the financial planning field who'd figured out how to resolve the whole problem by charging participant for seminars.
Here's what Jeff Paul did: He made use of low cost advertising and direct mail to get people to fork over real money to come to his tax seminar. Then he charged them another fee if they wanted to meet with him for a one-on-one 'consultation.' In addition to that, he got paid the usual commissions on the financial products they purchased.
Not only did he earn money all the way, he closed twice as numerous sales as he did before, and his clients followed his financial plans more carefully.
He built an extremely successful practice, because he was positioned from square one as the specialist that he truly was, instead of a peddler.
Are you thinking what I'm thinking? 'What if that same system could work for me???'
So I put together a 3-day, $1500 training course for this technology. I wrote a 4 page sales letter that 'sold the sizzle' and *really* explained why it was worth the time and money to show up and really, really learn this stuff.
About two months later, Fortune 500 companies were sending their staffs to this class, learning how to use our apparatus, and paying for information that I formerly couldn't give away with free pizza.
A big trade organization even licensed our new course and started selling it to their whole membership. We were getting paid to teach prospective clients how to use our products!
Our competitors were HACKED OFF.
You can probably apply similar stuff in your business. It's a lot easier than you might think.
And your competitors will be really mad at you, too.
Since the Internet can send information to people for very little cost, and sometimes for nearly nothing, it can be the key to doing "missionary work" for cutting edge products very inexpensively.
My favorite tool for doing this is a White Paper. A White Paper is your statement about how a problem should be solved. A well-written, well-promoted white paper is worth its weight in gold, because it educates customers about your way of doing things cheaply, and it's a terrific tool for generating sales leads.
Tomorrow I'll attack Lie #9:
'You can't charge premium prices for a commodity product.'
'Note people need to view your advertisement 6-12 times before they'll remember it.'
If your advertisement does not produce result one time, it ain't going to produce any result twelve times.
This lie is used to promote all sorts of advertising space and campaigns that are a waste of cash. And because the advertisers who tell you these ALSO tell you that you can't measure advertising, you have no way of finding out whether they're correct or not.
You pull the credit card out of your wallet, spend a bunch of cash, and you have no idea what you got back. What an awful feeling that is!
First, find out how much response you need to make it pay off. Have fun with the elements of your ad, running it in a cheap place, until it receive the response you desire - THEN run it six to twelve times again.
When you calculate the effectiveness of advertising - and systematically improve it, you'll learn that some ads produce 20 times as much result as others. When you determine the formulas that truly work, you won't just run them 12 times - you might run them for many years to come. And certainly, you'll make profits all along the way.
I have said this before, when you actually test marketing messages for performance and experiment with them, you'll discover that little changes in wording have HUGE effects on response.
Example: just this week I was experimenting with an advertisement. I did not alter any words; I just reversed the order of TWO SHORT LINES of text. The response to the ad grew by THREE THOUSAND PERCENT (!).
It's extremely SCARY to think about what can occur if you're not testing things. And it's completely incredible what can take place when you are.
By the way, you know where those two lines of text were? They were on a small advertisement running on the right side of search page on GOOGLE.
Google has a system called AdWords which allows you to bid on any words or phrases you want, have your ads ONLY show up when people search, and you only pay when people click and land on your website.
It's hands-down the QUICKEST way I know to generate sales and sales leads.
The good news is 95% of companies don't test their ads. Your competitors almost certainly don't. If you do, you have a big advantage over them.
Tomorrow I'll move on to Lie #8:
'If you want to educate customers about new ideas, you have to buy 'em all doughnuts, lunch or dinner, and do a big dog & pony show.'

I can openly attribute this lie to five solid years of misery and disappointment in my own life.
In my early 20's, I was a network marketing junkie, and I was listening to this one every day. And I believed it passionately.
But finally, slowly, I began to understand that this statement was nothing more than a way of manipulating me (via guilt) into sticking around for yet-another-month of doing something that totally was not working at all.
Let's get this straight: Some opportunities don't work. Some businesses aren't worth doing. Some products are so weak that nothing can save them. Some ventures are doomed from the very begin, and even if they APPEAR to be valuable.
Even if some individuals are capable of making them look rewarding, you must submit them to thorough testing as I discussed yesterday and find out if they're fundamentally lucrative or not.
When you discover that it ain't going to work, DITCH IT and move on! That's quitting out of STRENGTH.
Here's the actual issue:
Are you quitting out of STRENGTH, or are you quitting out of WEAKNESS?
If you quit because you're just simply lazy or not ready to learn, then you're quitting out of weakness, too bad for you.
If you quit because you've discovered that you're headed in the wrong way, then you're quitting out of strength. And you should quit as quick as you possibly can, so that you can succeed at something else.
So here's the REAL fact:
Winners do not quit out of weakness, and quitters never even get far enough to quit out of strength.
Just like everything else I've been discussing about this week, shrewd marketing uses valid numbers and results to judge winning and losing propositions and get down to the real fact.
Back to my life in MLM: I purchased a toolkit from Dan Kennedy and thankfully started using direct marketing to build that business. Actually, that method DID work.
BUT - I also figured out that the cost of acquiring a client was way too high and the return took so long. Simply put, there were numerous other businesses where the numbers were very much superior, and required far less 'manual labor.' When I was building that business via shoe leather, the true price was concealed from me, and I thought it would be useful in the end.
But when I reduced the acquisition of a new client to a dollar figure, though, it became clear that I was making a mistake. I quit, out of strength.
After that, my next adventure was actually in a traditional corporate job in a small company. It was a lot of fun, and eventually, very profitable.
Tomorrow we will move on to Lie #7:
'Prospects need to view your advertisement 6-12 times before they'll remember it.'
Cheers.

You have to pay your dues now, in 2-3 years you'll have sufficient clients and referrals that you won't have to cold prospect any more.
There are two things incorrect with this assertion: The initial part, and the second part.
First let's discuss about 'paying your dues.'
There's the ordinary salesperson's version of this and then there's the guerrilla marketer's version. The marketer's way of 'paying your dues' is hugely more productive, as I shall elaborate.
The sales way of paying your dues is 1-3 years of brutal hard labor, until your customers base is large enough to let up on the cold calls.
Excellent marketing can abolish the years of cold calls in the first place, and as you know, I'm completely against cold calling for a whole series of reasons that you've already read. But here's how the marketer's version operates:
You polish and treat your sales letters, on paper, or the web, or in some kind of media, until its razor sharp - and then you experiment it inexpensively until it's effective and highly profitable.
Web traffic is usually the quickest place to perfect this, by the way.
THEN you roll it out to the big world and put big cash in - and large cash comes out instantly.
It's an ENORMOUS leap frog effect, and you don't see of it as 'paying your dues' --- you think of it as EXPERIMENTING.
Experimenting is WAY better than Rejection. It's an interesting learning process instead of a gauntlet. It's also a way of growing a business pretty fast without a huge investment of capital.
Once you've experiement a marketing campaign to the point where sales or sales leads starts comin at an anattractive Return on Investment (ROI), THEN you can invest heavily and watch the profits soar.
OK, now for the other facet of the lie, the aspect about not having to prospect any more.
You constantly have to prospect, IF you do not have a good marketing system in place. Always, no matter how long your company has been around.
Note: If you offer such an excellent service and clients are so contented that they eagerly refer others to you, then, you won't have to prospect anymore. But referrals themselves are still a great marketing system! And there are a lot of things you can do to encourage more referrals.
In any case, if you move from brute force prospecting to shrewd Guerrilla Marketing, you'll never again fall victim of Lie #5.
Quote for today:
'Winners never quit, and quitters never win.'
Best of Success to you

'Prove to your clients that you're prepared to work harder, drive more miles, and bend over further than everyone else to win his business.'
This one's pretty subtle. At initial glance it seems like stupidity to say that anything less than a great customer service is going to cut it in today's marketplace.
But here's the thing: Most sales folks try to speak this way too soon, in the process of being way too impatient to win the client's business.
So what occurs is; you're running after the guy, saying 'Call me any time, day or night, page me, here is my phone number.
'Heck, I'll even jump out of bed and come and see you if I'm right in the middle of making love to my wife, because man, lemme tell ya, I'm eager to earn your business!!'
Of course clients know that after the sales person has made every conceivable promise to earn their business, they still end up dealing with a bunch of apathetic yo-yos in customer service or technical support, and the project will STILL likely be late anyway - regardless of how enthusiastic the salesman is.
That's why your enthusiasm doesn't assist you.
Here's a great way to fix the issue:
1. Do not act so darn hungry to acquire the guy's business. Your client service and technical support people ARE busy, and they don't have time to hold the hands of trouble clients.
Don't be frightened to tell your prospects that they have to be eligible to do business with you. It's counter intuitive, but when the clients discover that you're not drooling all over yourself to get his purchase order, he's going to admire you more.
2. Guarantee results to the clients – with teeth. Guarantee timely delivery, specific levels of performance, with negative consequences for YOUR Company, if it doesn't deliver. You do not have to promise prospect the moon! You just have to keep the vow you DO make.
Now this needs support from the president of the company on down. And many companies don't like to guarantee anything. When push comes to shove, you still have to deliver results anyway, right? Giving a guarantee often just means clearly stating what's already right.
And if you aren't prepared to guarantee anything why the heck not? Why should your clients take all the risk after they've heard a bunch of empty promises?
Even a modest guarantee can greatly empower your sales message. Define what you can and can't deliver, go to the mat to keep your own side of the bargain, and draw the line right there. Clients will be far more responsive and you won't appear desperate.
People are cynical, and they'll only believe what you can backup with prove. By the way, here's my guarantee:
"If you purchase my marketing system toolkit, and you do not put at least $10,000 into your bank account that you know you wouldn't have gotten without it, then all you have to do is prove to me that you did ONE measly thing in that toolkit -- and I'll give you your money back, every penny."
When you seamlessly integrate bold sales messages and meaningful guarantees with the other ingredients of my system, the results are exciting.
Tomorrow I'll attack Lie #5:
'You have to pay your dues now, but in only 2-3 years you'll have enough clients and referrals that you won't have to cold prospect hardly at all.'
Best of Success,
John Benjamin

You have to start running some ads and get your name out there.'
This one costs big companies BILLIONS of dollars.
It was also one of the main causes of the DOT COM tragedy that tanked the stock market in 2000.
Advertising is an essential ingredient, yet it actually works against numerous companies. But when it actually works in your favor, amazing things can occur.
All advertising MUST do one of two the following
1. Generate Sales or 2. Generate Sales Leads.
And do so in a measurable, quantifiable manner.
If you do either of those things listed above, you will have no issue getting your name out there and you will also make heaps of money in the process.
But if you simply try to get your name out there, you probably won't make any sales OR sales leads.
Worse still, if you employ an ad agency, your ads will usually be written by some English major who had never had a sales job in his entire life, a BIG mistake I presume, since advertising and selling two sides of the same coin and the agency account representative will attempt to win you over with a song and dance about winning awards.
Here's an ugly truth: Ads that win awards hardly generate sales. And ads that sell hardly win awards.
Can you recall the Talking Sock in the PETS.COM superbowl commercial? It was cute and unforgettable, but it didn't save those guys from the Dot Com Boneyard.
Dead Dot Coms Don't Lie.
People do not anticipate nearly enough from their advertising, and they don't hold it accountable for the end results. So they squander millions of dollars...then they begin pounding their sales people for orders on the 26th of every month.
Most corporations also try to make their advertising do too much. Let me explain more on this.
When you are making sales leads, you must note that all you are really trying to do is get people to raise their hands and identify themselves as someone who has a challenge or problem – and tell you who they are.
Anything beyond that dilutes the efficiency of your ad.
So don't make the mistake of revealing too much to them. The reason of pure lead generation promotion is NOT for you to tell them all about yourself - not in the initial step anyway.
The idea is for them to tell you who they are.
When you do this appropriately, it's easy, elegant, and outrageously effective. And most importantly, nobody feels like you're chasing after them.
And one more thing, everything you utter in advertising must be very specific, including what you do and who you do it for.
If you're busy being all things to all people--if you've got a big list of things that you can do, you are likely not going to sell anything to anybody. You must first define a niche for yourself that is reasonably unique.
In fact even if you dont have a niche yet, you need to create one where it did not exist before.
Over a period of five years, I perfected a strategy for generating sales leads this way, and I would never, ever consider going back to the obsolete method for advertising.
'Prove to your clients that you're willing to work harder, drive more miles, and bend over further than everyone else to earn his business.'
See you soon.

'You've just got to get in front of more prospect.'
~~~
Lie number two used to be the initial thing I'd say to myself when I woke up every morning.
Waking up each morning with a lie running through your brain is a very, very bad thing.
This one gave me ulcers. It makes me to spend untold hundreds of hours in my car, driving to see anyone who would permit me to walk through their door. It makes me to spend untold thousands of hours on the phone, trying to create appointments. It also makes me to owe staggering amounts of money to Aunt Visa and Uncle Master Card.
Here's the Fact:
If you are nothing more than a 'sales person,' then nobody wants to see you, ever, because nobody is ever jazzed about having an adversarial discussion with you, whether they are going to buy something or not.
About 100 years ago, face-to-face selling was usually the only means to find out about the latest product or service. Not now.
We've got laptop right in our bedroom and a DSL line - and ANY TIME my wife or I want to find out about something, we jump right on the web and go find out. Just yesterday Laura and I were talking about housing prices and five minutes later we were browsing a real estate site and learning everything we wanted to know.
Isn't that a lot convenient and safer than inviting a real estate agent over for tea & crumpets?
You bet. But please understand the issue is NOT that real estate agents are old fashioned.
The issue is
1. Is the Internet really working FOR the agent, or AGAINST her?
2. Does she add real value to what the client can already get from the Internet? Is she positioning herself such that clients who are willing to do something see her as a valuable resource and call her when it's time to act? Or is she just a friendly face who just wants their listing?
She must clearly position herself as someone who drastically speeds up the buying or selling process and makes it MUCH EASIER for the buyer / seller to get what they desire.
OK, so how do you SHOW that you, as a sales person, make your client's life easier - that time spent with you is time well spent?
Here's how: In your marketing, you focus on their problems and challenges, not your solution. You concentrate on the itch, not the scratch.
This might sound easy, but even so, rarely anybody really does this. If you doubt me, then I suggest you pick up ANY magazine and flip through it.
Ask yourself this question as you view every ad:
'is this ad about my problem, or is it concerning somebody's product?'
Ninety percent of the time it's about their 'cool' product. And nobody really cares. The only thing people bother about is their problem.
So here's a major shift: Instead of being a salesman who's trying to get in front of prospect, become a problem resolving Information Source. Usually it's written, information first and not a phone call.
You will get five times as many sales leads that way. No joke.
After you have offered information that assist resolve their problems, the next logical step is for them to get to meet with you.
They call you initially - you don't have to call them first. And you walk through their door as a problem resolver and not a peddler.
This is what i call 'Information Marketing.
It is THE fundamental concept in my marketing system.
People are not interested in your solution. They are only interested in their problem.
Tomorrow I will talk about Lie #3:
'You should run some ads and get your name out there.'
'Make more phone calls today than you did the previous day.'
~~~
If making phone calls really, actually works well for you, then I presume you should make more of them.
But most of the time, as I discuss in 'Guerilla Marketing for Hi-Tech Salesmen,' the phone calls aren't really turning out well in the first place. And doing more of what already isn't productive is just dumb. Plus, unsolicited phone calls just irritate people.
Today when you listen to a motivational speaker getting salesmen all revved up to go make phone calls and bear the rejection, imagine this in your mind: one thousand soldiers with sticks and rocks in hand charge valiantly onto a battleground, where they are cut down with machine guns, tanks and artillery fire - dying in droves.
Actually a small handful of extraordinary, talented warriors will survive by strength, testosterone and wit. But the odds are heavily tilted against them. Only the very best even survive, much less prosper.
If your only weapon in sales/marketing is your telephone and your ability to withstand rejection, you're battling tanks with sticks. Moreover, as the 21st century uncovers the trouble's going to get worse and not better.
Think about this for a moment: about 30 years ago, factory workers began to be replaced by machines and cheap foreign labor. The worker cost $12 per hour but the machine only cost $2.50 per hour. Is anyone ready to work for $2.50 per hour? Many salesmen are doing just that.
Today, salesmen are being displaced by websites and media. Imagine that you were a door to door book salesman today, they were quite common hundred years ago, how would you ever contend with Amazon, or a bookstore like Borders or Barnes & Noble?
Impossible, you'd probably starve to death. And you couldn't possibly provide your clients a similar level of service or selection.
A vendor selling books door to door is only slightly different from somebody who sells insurance or telecommunications or any number of other products and services in todays world.
But the FACT is: IF you create a niche for yourself, I'll cover that in installment #3 and #9 and IF you utilize automated tools like your website and direct mail, you CAN increase the competence of your business and you CAN compete.
And you won't antagonize your clients in the process and you won't need those large doses of motivation.
Listen up: You MUST carve out a niche for yourself, and you MUST utilize your communication tools astutely.
Most corporations don't. Most websites are setup with no particular goal in mind. Most corporations don't have any idea how to setup a direct mail piece that makes the phone ring. That's why they assume direct mail doesn't work.
BOTTOM LINE:
1) You MUST have marketing tools that do the grunt task for you.
2) You must tweak those tools until they're productive.
Often you'll attempt something and it doesn't go well the first time, its normal.
But the good thing is, once it picks up, it will usually work for many YEARS to come.
That's why time spent on marketing is completely the best time investment you can make - IF you're well informed about what really works and what doesn't.

The issue about business Internet pricing is that it can vary from month to month. On how many occassions have you noticed commercials or ads offering service at a cheaper rate than you are paying for the same company you use?
Why should you pay more than a new client when you are a long standing and faithful customer to that company? You shouldnt, you should ensure that you are regularly receiving the best prices available.
Some corporations try to make you go into contracts when you start your service. This can pen you into whatever business Internet pricing is available at that given time. If you can, you should stay away from having lengthy contracts because the providers are more likely to reduce your rates if you can easily switch your service to the competition.
If you have to go into a contract, pay close attention to the duration of the contracts and any amount you will be required to pay for early termination. You should always ensure you have an easy way out in case you come across an offer that will save you a lot of cash.
Get into the habit of comparing prices atleast twice a year. Check to see what the competitors have to offer and then call your company to find out if they will match the rate. There are some companies who will happly match a competitor’s price or offer you more services for free to keep your business.
Same with your household utilities and insurance bills, you should always ensure you are paying the best possible rates. Business Internet pricing can change and if you aren't paying the cheapest rates out there you might as well be throwing cash away! The more you save on the overhead cost of running your business on a daily basis, the more money you can out into your pocket!
How many times have you been browsing the web and noticed an extreme lag in performance. When you run an internet business it is important that you have a reliable business Internet provider. The Internet service you pick should be able to operate at high speeds so that you can finish the entire task you need to throughout the day. As a business owner, you may also consider a provider that will give you a USB modem so that you can easily work on the go.
There are various business Internet providers to pick from and the best way to make that choice is to first seek other people's opinions about their Internet service. If they are having challenges, like websites taking a long time to load, your friends and family can probably tell you. You also want ensure you are receiving the best rate for your money. While it's alright to spend a little extra for special service, it's not all right to break the bank.
You should verify with any local providers and see if there are bundle package they can offer you. Your Internet cost may be inexpensive if you have the same provider for your business phone. If you are operating out of a home office, you should also check if it will give you extra discounts if your home phone and cable services are with that provider as well.
In most cases a business Internet provider will provide special offers from time to time. If these special offers are cheaper than your present rates with that company you should call to have your rates adjusted. There is no reason new clients should get better rates than their long standing and loyal customers. You should also try to stay away from signing contracts. The competition is fierce and you never know when you will come across a better deal and want to switch over.
